Lights Out

A new TV drama series that focuses on a boxer who struggles financially to support his family after he retire from boxing due to a possible pugilistic dementia disorder. After watching the first 3 episode, I can’t see this series would last long on TV. Its like watching a TV series of Rocky movie but at this time it focuses more on daily life of a boxer rather on the ring. The acting and story telling are good, but it lacks sub-plots to make the series more interesting. The story focuses on Lights family only, which the series is all about but it could be interesting if it also shows Raynolds side of the story.

Pilot 1st episode synopsis
Patrick “Lights” Leary who loss the heavyweight title against Raymond Raynolds retires from boxing. After 5 years, financial troubles begins and Patricks struggles on how to support his family. His brother Johnny wants him to do a comeback rematch against Raynolds, to uplift their financial problems even he has signs of pugilistic dementia disorder.

2nd episode synopsis
Patrick thinking the possibility doing a comeback, secretly went to the doctor to check his condition without letting her wife knows. Patrick also told his father that he is broke, Johnny continues to find ways to lift up their financial problems. Patrick did find a one time job as a debt collector, which he ends up breaking the arm of one of the person he’s collecting.

3rd episode synopsis
Its Patrick’s birthday, her daughters and wife are preparing for a surprise for him in a form of a scrap book album. Lights spend his birthday with his family and scanning the scrap book created by her daughters, he watched the outcome of the fight between Omar and Harris. Omar looses his opportunity cause he let his guard down when he thought Harris is going down. With Omar loosing the championship, the hope to save Leary Gym becomes dim.
